|Abstract:||In the aftermath of flood events in the UK, the insurance and the drying and repair industry are frequently criticised for the speed with which households are able to return to their homes. Delays in restoration have been attributed to lack of guidance and the need for improved methods and processes for drying buildings. A critical appraisal of available guidance and other sources relating to drying of buildings was undertaken. The review was enhanced by targeted interviews with industry experts and was validated via a stakeholder consultation workshop. The study found that a wide range of guidance is available and that most issues surrounding the drying of buildings are well covered but some gaps were identified. The findings endorse the need for new guidance but also for research into specific technical aspects of the drying process, which will help to speed up flood restoration in the future.|
