Abstract:In 1973 Ackers and White published a sediment transport theory to predict the movement of non-cohesive sediments. The theory contains four empirical parameters which were determined by fitting them to observed transport data. These equations are widely used to calculate sediment transport, morphological change in channels, the size of stable alluvial channels and to design physical models. This report described the re-derivation of the empirical parameters on an extended data set. The new equations give lower predictions of sediment transport for fine sediments and coarse sediments.
