|Abstract:||This paper describes the flood risk assessment undertaken for the new Turner Contemporary Gallery, which is to be located on an urban coastal site in the town of Margate, Kent. The flood risk assessment made specific use of findings from separate studies undertaken prior to the assessment, principally on wave and overtopping analysis (including joint probability analysis and overtopping consequences) and threedimensional physical modelling of the proposed building and seawall (including measurement of wave pressures and overtopping volumes). This paper illustrates state-of-the-art scientific developments and methods being applied in the context of producing a formal planning document, for design and assessment of a culturally interesting structure to be built as close to the coastline as possible without actually being in the sea.|
