Abstract: | This project is aimed specifically at demonstrating the effectiveness of a new methodology for designing rainwater harvesting systems for controlling stormwater run-off. At present the perception held by most people is that the uncertainty associated with the availability of storage within a rainwater harvesting tank at the time of a large storm is too great to be able to rely upon it being sufficiently empty to store a specific (large) volume of water associated with an extreme rainfall event. This project demonstrates that, subject to a simple criterion being met, stormwater runoff can be managed using rainwater harvesting systems. This has major implications for the sizing and use of rainwater harvesting in the urban environment. |
